Granier⎮Ancient offers discreet advisory support for collectors seeking sharper judgment, disciplined pricing, and greater coherence in their collections.
As more collectors buy directly at auction, online, or from photographs alone, mistakes have become increasingly common. Avoiding even a small number of them can quickly offset the cost of our service, while enabling more confident acquisitions and the steady development of a thoughtful collection.
To reflect the way collecting decisions usually happen, our advisory is structured in two complementary levels. Signal, a first monthly filter, and Note, a deeper written assessment available when an object requires closer attention.

Signal

Minimum commitment: 6 months

Up to 5 objects per month.

Short independent opinion to protect the first stage of the decision

Signal is a first filter designed to prevent avoidable mistakes.

Signal is not a purchase recommendation. It identifies whether an object deserves attention.

What it covers:

quick assessment of an object under consideration
indication of whether the object should be avoided, approached with caution, or deserves further attention

What it does not cover:

full formal study
opinion on price level
back-and-forth discussion

Note

€350/object

A written acquisition assessment, available after Signal

Full study with judgment on quality, pricing, and relevance within a collection

Note is a decision tool. It is intended for objects that have already passed the first filter of Signal and now require a higher level of attention. It tells you whether the object deserves acquisition, at what level, and in relation to the collection.

What it covers:

formal and qualitative analysis
condition and surface reading, where possible from images
price or estimate assessment
risks and reservations
relevance within collection
acquisition discipline
clear final recommendation

What it does not cover:

active sourcing
buying on behalf of the client
representation in bidding
commercial intermediation
formal certificate of authenticity

How It Works

Signal and Note are handled by email.

Opinions are based on the photographs and information provided by the client, unless physical inspection is separately agreed. Incomplete documentation may limit the precision of the opinion.

Signal is not a purchase recommendation and it does not replace the full study of Note.

Unused Signal submissions do not roll over.

Signal is a monthly subscription with a minimum commitment of six months.

Payment is made in advance each month by bank transfer. Stripe or PayPal may be used on request.
