Luo culture, Uganda or Kenya
19th to very early 20th Century
This beautiful and ancient Luo stool with long animal feet has a stunning glossy patina of use and one foot was carefully restored by a previous owner (only a thin line remains visible) So this is not a piece of furniture to sit on but I guarantee a very fair price for a piece of African design a century old.
I found a new field photo illustrating this type of stoll in the book "In wildest Africa - the record of a hunting and exploration trip through Uganda, Victoria Nyanza, the Kilimanjaro region and British East Africa..." from Peter MacQueen, 1910.
The stool comes from a private American collection and dates from the 19th to very early 20th century.
