Fighting Club, Knobkerrie

Zulu, South Africa

19th Century

On this fine, old and used fighting knobkerrie club from the Zulu people of today's South Africa, the ball is decorated with two "eyes" (one looking up and the other one looking down) and the handle has that wonderful, organic, flowing curve I always look for in an ancient Zulu club.

The piece comes from a Monte-Carlo collection and both its style and surface indicates a 19th century object.

It is in very good condition, despite evident traces of use, it has a wonderfull natural patina throughout and sits on a custom made stand by Romain Laforêt.

H: 67 cm (26 1/4 inches) (without stand)
